The Catechic Quilt

$4,000.00

The Catechic Quilt is a humble ode to foraged dye plants. Catechic tannins, complex and generous dye compounds found in roots and barks, gave this linen quilt its rich palette. Over the last few years, I've foraged and cultivated plants to create the quilt pallet : Japanese knotweed root, Bradford pear bark, and sumac leaf yield the warm earth tones, while black walnut overdyed with indigo produces the deep blacks. The delicate light blue accents come from my homegrown indigo vat alone.

I've long been drawn to strip-pieced log cabin quilts, and this piece showcases how versatile this traditional block can be. The asymmetrical block style arranged symmetrically creates unexpected curves and movement throughout the design.

The hand quilting uses cotton sashiko thread, with stitching lines that echo and emphasize the organic curves formed by the blocks. I chose Sonoma natural wool batting for its luxurious loft and supple texture, which the hand quilting further enhances.

72in X 72in (large throw quilt size)

Shipping to the continental USA is included in the price.
