Organic Indigo Dyeing Workshop - Dried Leaf Vat Method for Small Scale Growers UNLISTED

$95.00

Sunday, October 12th

1pm - 4pm

Led by Cait Nolan

In this workshop we will create and dye in an organic indigo vat made with dried Persicaria Tinctoria (Japanese Indigo), slaked lime, wood ash and fructose.

We’ll use a process based on Michel Garcia’s 1234 method to unlock the indigotin trapped in the dried persicaria leaves from Cait’s dye garden.

This method is especially exciting for small scale backyard growers of Japanese indigo who may struggle to grow enough leaves for the more common aqueous extraction or Sukumo (composting) methods.

We will discuss some of the chemistry at play in this process and this will be a very hands on experiential workshop.

The registration fee includes all the vat materials we will be using during the workshop and an organic cotton shawl (44” x 89”) . Participants are also encouraged to bring up to 500 grams of additional fiber to dye (must be scoured and ready to dye).

This workshop will be held at Cait’s home dye studio in Williamstown, NJ (about 30 minutes from Philadelphia).

Please review my refund policy prior to finalizing your payment.

Refund Policy: I will issue a full refund provided a written withdrawal notice is emailed to me at caitmnolan@gmail.com. Any withdrawal notice must be received 14 days prior to the first day of a workshop for a full refund. Students who wish to withdraw fewer than 14 days before the first day of the workshop will be issued a 50% refund following the above procedure. No refunds will be issued after the first day of a workshop.
